Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Banjarmasin Traffic Unit Police (Satlantas) continues to campaign for healthy cycling to school to reduce traffic accidents that often cause loss of life among students who use motorbikes.
As a manifestation of the real campaign, the Satlantas Head Comr Wibowo initiated a gowes cycling event for junior high school students on Friday (9/21) morning.
Taking a start at Banjarmasin Police headquarters, Wibowo led the gowes to state junior high school SMPN 8 Banjarmasin on Jalan Gerilya, South Banjarmasin. Many students interested. No less than 700 students took part.
The teachers also seemed enthusiastic to participate, including a number of officials also present, such as the Head of the Banjarmasin Education Agency Totok Agus Daryanto and the Branch Head of PT Jasa Raharja South Kalimantan M Zulham Pane.
"Thank God, our idea of campaigning for cycling to school responded positively. Even the Education Office fully supported this activity until it was carried out smoothly," Wibowo told Antara News Agency.
According to him, the activity was part of promoting the Healthy Community Transportation (TSM) which is now being echoed by the National Police Traffic Corps.
"So this is an effort to cultivate cycling from an early age by targeting students who go to school," he explained.
Wibowo admitted his party had been campaigning for the ban on riding a motorbike to school since 2016. Even some schools have implemented MoUs with the Banjarmasin Traffic Police which basically guarantees that no students bring a motorcycle to school.
