Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Kotabaru District Government held a goat contest in an effort to improve quality of goat farming products.
Regional Secretary of Kotabaru H Eka Saprudin expressed his deep appreciation to the committee, livestock community, and those who participacipated in the event.
"This event align with Kotabaru government's commitment to encourage livestock sector as a pillar of stengthening regional economy, improving community welfare, and food security," he said here as reported on Monday.
He hopes there will be innovation, knowledge exchange, and motivation for farmers to continuously improve the quality of their farming, husbandry management, and marketing of their livestock.
It was the first goat contest held by the Kotabaru Food Security and Agriculture Office (DKPP) with the theme “si kambing hebat” or great goat by presenting superior goats that were healthy, productive, and of high economic value.

"I encourage all participants to uphold sportmanship, honesty, and spirit of togetherness throughout the contest. Use this event as a means for learning, sharing experiences, and building mutually reinforcing networks," he said.
Head of Kotabaru DKPP Sarawani expounded that the aim of the contest was to improve the genetic quality of local and superior goats, and to encourage farmers to apply good farming pratices, to improve livestock productivity, health and performance.
“38 breeders participated in the contest with 108 goats in the PE (etawa crossbreed) category, male, female, and kids. In addition to PE category, there were also local goat category for male, female and kids," he explained.
