Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan Marine Affairs and Fisheries Office has distributed 240,000 tiger prawn seeds to Karya Insan Fish Farming Group (Pokdakan) in Stagen Village, Kotabaru District, to support the development of fishery cultivation center (shrimp estate).

Head of the office Rusdi Hartono here on Tuesday said that the assistance was given to 12 members of the Pokdakan, each receiving approximately 20,000 seeds, as part of effort to strengthen group-based aquaculture production in the coastal area of Kotabaru.

“This program is a concrete step in supporting vision of Governor and Vice Governor to accelerate the development of shrimp estate in coastal area,” he pointed out.

Rusdi hopes the assistance will increase production capacity of shrimp farming groups and strengthening  independence of community business. Tiger prawn has a significant economic potential to strengthening regional economic resilience based on marine and fisheries sector and improving welfare of coastal communities.

The distribution of assistance also involved the local government, fisheries extension workers, and various related stakeholders as a form of synergy in supporting the development of productive and sustainable aquaculture sector.

He emphasized that cross-sector collaboration is key to creating efficient and competitive aquaculture syste, thus it significantly impacting the economic growth of coastal communities.

“With this assistance, we hope Karya Insan Fish Farming Group will become a model for successful tiger prawn cultivation and strengthen the role of Kotabaru aquaculture center in supporting the sustainable growth of regional fisheries sector,” said Rusdi.
