Rantau, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Tapin District Government together with Public Works Ministry team reviewed two buildings that are unused assets to be considered as temporary locations for Sekolah Rakyat (People's School).
Head of South Kalimantan Strategic Infrastructure Implementation Work Unit Didrik Rienert Abel said the visit was an initial step to assess the suitability of the buildings as learning facility.
“We check the physical structure and functionality of the buildings to see if the buildings are adequate or need adjustment before being used as Sekolah Rakyat,” he said in Rantau, Tapin capital, South Kalimantan, Saturday.

The two unused assets are former building of elementary school SDN Rantau Kiwa 1 and former offfice of Tapin Education Agency.
The results of the technical evaluation will become a consideration for Public Works Ministry to determine the direction of further construction.
Sekolah Rakyat program is the government's concrete effort to expand access to decent education for children from poor and extremely poor families.
""Sekolah Rakyat is part of the national strategic programs that emphasizes inclusive and affordable access to education, especially for people in the regions," said Abel.
Meanwhile, Head of Tapin Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Office Rizkan Noor said the two locations are only temporary while waiting for the plan to build a permanent bulding from the central government.
“If rehabilitation is needed, then the authority is in the ministry, Tapin government is ready to support by providing data, asset administration, and other technical needs,” he said
Rizkan said that this effort is a strategy to expedite the use of asset to support national priority programs in education sector.
Previously, Tapin Regent Yamani has met Minister of Social Affaris Saifullah Yusuf in Jakarta, Wednesday (July 2, 2025) to submit the administrative requirement documents for the construction of Sekolah Rakyat.
He said that Tapin government prepared 12.62 hectares of for Sekolah Rakyat in the hinterland of Candi Laras Utara and Candi Laras Selatan.
“We have submitted all the supporting documents from administration to land readiness with the hope that it can enter the first or second phase of the develoment schedule for September,” said the Regent.
