Rantau, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) in Tapin District, South Kalimantan, has recorded 17 natural hazard throughout September 2025, dominated by forest and land fires and exreme weather.
Head of the agency's Emergency and Logistics H Akhmad Syofyan said based on data from Tapin BPBD's Disaster Management Control and Operation (Pusdalops PB) as of September 30, 2025, most wild fires occurred in the sub-districts of Tapin Selatan, Tapin Tengah, Bungur, Bakarangan, and Candi Laras Utara.
"Heavy rain accompanied by strong wind hit several villages, such as Parigi Kacil, Parigi Simbar, Sarawi, and Lawahan, causing damages to a number of people's houses," he said.

Sofyan informed that the disaster affected 10 families with 33 people, with a total material losses estimated at Rp420 million.
He said all disasters had been handled thanks to the quick response of the Rapid Reaction Team (TRC) with TNI, Polri, Satpol PP (PUblic Order Agency), and volunteers.
“As soon as the report came in, the team immediately went to the location. For hard to reach wild fires, we got water bombing support from the South Kalimantan BPBD's Air Task Force,” Sofyan explained.
He pointed out that all disaster areas are now under control, however the BPBD continues to strengthen preparedness and mitigation to minimize the risk of similar incidents.

According to Syofyan, there are five main steps implemented by Tapin BPBD, including mapping vulnerable areas, outreach and education, preparedness training, establishing disaster-resilient villages (Destana), and applying early warning system.
“Mitigation is our main focus. Public education and preparedness are crucial to minimize disaster risk,” he said.
Sofyan urged residents to stay vigilant against unpredictable climate change, particularly during the changing season.
"Dry season still has the potential to cause forest and land fires, while transitional season can trigger strong winds and heavy rain. Report any signs of a disaster immediately," he said.
