Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - During the Regent H Muhammad Rusli and Deputy Regent Syairi Mukhlis first 100 working days, at least 1,000 tree and mangrove seedlings have been planted in various locations as an effort to protect and preserve the environment.
Head of the Kotabaru Environment Office Hj Melinda Ratna Agustina said one of the forms of the Regent's commitment to preserving the environment is planting tree seedlings of various types in critical lands.
"The aim is to re-green or reforestation efforts in Kotabaru District," she aid as reported on Wednesday.
It was the Regent, she said, who made an innovation by replacing environmentally unfriendly flower bouquets as congratulation with bouquets of tree seedlings or fruit plants.
At the district's 75th anniverary celebration, the Regent handed over a bouquet of plant seedlings to the Environment Office to be planted at the locations of reforestation and green open spaces (RTH).
The Regent also received an appreciation from the Environment Office in the form of a plaque of appreciation for his high concern and commitment in the environment in Kotabaru Regency.
