Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - Inmates or prisoners in South Kalimantan to be involved in Agriculture Ministry's Food Brigade program. They will work on 100 hectares land in South Kalimantan.
"The correctional inmates (WBP) involved are those who undergo social reintegration program," said Head of the Law and Human Rights Ministry's (Kemenkumham) South Kalimantan Office Jumadi in Banjarmasin, Tuesday (Dec 3, 2024).
Food Brigade program is Agriculture Ministry's strategic step to boost agricultural productivity. It attracts younger generation and supports national food security through modern technology and sustainable management.
The land prepared for Food Brigade program in the Sub-district of Bati-Bati, Tanah Laut District, was reviewed by Head of Immigration and Correctional Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM Imipas) Aman Riyadi and Secretary of Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen PAS) Gun Gun Gunawan.

The land belongs to citizen and has been handed over to the government to be jointly managed and cultivated by the goverment, community, and millennials, including inmates.
Some strategic steps will be taken, including irrigation deepening, printing new rice fields, and optimizing local agricultural equipment.
Directorate General of Corrections in its direction emphasizes the importance of mentoring and training for inmates to be ready to manage agricultural land, even though some of them already have experience in this field.
Initial planting to be carried out by acting Regent of Tanah Laut in the second week of January 2025 to be then followed up by the South Kalimantan Office of Law and Human Rights Ministry through Corrections Division with an assessment in the second week December 2024 in 17 penitentiaries with a target of 100 inmates to be prepared as Food Brigade.
