Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - Head of Banjarmasin Population Control, Family Planning, and community Empowerment Agency (DPPKBPM) M Helfiannor said victims of acts of violence or abuse now become bolder to report.
It resulted in the higher cases recorded, namely 156 cases, in 2022 in the city.
"Cases of child and woman abuse in the city higher than the previous year," he said in Banjarmasin, Friday.
"So it's not the city government's fault why cases of violence against children and women are increasing, but residents are more willing to report," Helfiannor pointed out.
The fact is, he said, now violence, such as sexual harassment or domestic violence (KDRT) is no longer hidden, for fear that violence will continue or it will become disgrace.
"So the community or the victim are aware that they must report to law enforcement or an authorized government office in order to get protection and their case is handled," said Helfiannor.
According to him, all cases were handled properly, some even reached the realm of law.
"There are several perpetrators who were convicted," he said.
He revealed that in 2022 cases of abuse against children reached 100 and 52 cases against women.
What is also a concern at this time, Helfiannor said, are cases of child neglect or irresponsibility of parents disposing of their children due to illicit affairs.
"In 2022 there were two cases, this year one case," he said.
To avoid such cases, said Helfiannor, his office deploys task force, also increasing socialization to avoid promiscuity.
"We are increasing socialization on protection of children and women," he said.
