Timika, Papua (ANTARA) - The south passenger terminal building of Mozes Kilangin Airport in Timika, Papua, is targeted to be completed by the end of 2022, Mimika district deputy head Johannes Rettob informed on Saturday.
The construction of the south passenger terminal building has currently reached around 61.9-percent completion, Rettob said.
The building is almost exactly the same as another passenger terminal building built by the Ministry of Transportation, and will have two floors covering an area of 21 thousand sq. m. The only difference is that the south passenger terminal building is being built by the local government.
"In accordance with the multi-year work contract, it should be completed by the end of this year, but there is still a shortage of costs for accessories work on the inside (of the building) such as meubeler (furniture), electrification, and so on," he explained.
To complete installing indoor accessories, the local government needs a budget of around Rp45 billion, Rettob pointed out.
Although the construction of the Timika Airport passenger terminal building can be completed by the end of 2022, the facility cannot be operated if it is not equipped with supporting facilities such as flight information systems, he added.
According to him, the two passenger terminal buildings built by the Ministry of Transportation and the local government will be connected, thus making the total area 42 thousand sq. m.
With that, Rettob explained, the Timika Airport passenger terminal will be the second largest in the eastern region of Indonesia after the Sultan Hasanuddin Airport terminal in Makassar, South Sulawesi.
"After everything is completed, the Timika Airport terminal will be the second-largest in eastern Indonesia," he explained.
The Mimika Transportation Office has installed three boarding bridge units in the south passenger terminal building, which will be used for accommodating the departures and arrivals of passengers, he informed.
