Amuntai, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - A total of 2,300 cadres accompanied by health workers from 10 health community centers in the district of North Hulu Sungai to be deployed to homes and schools to distribute anti-filarial medicine.
Head of Disease Prevention and Eradication of Health Agency Masbudianto here on Wednesday said in Months of Elephantiasis Elimination (Belkaga) a mass distribution of anti-filarial medicine re-implemented from 1 October.
"We prepare 2,300 cadres. Each one cadre will distribute the drug to 25-30 families," said Masbudianto.
According to him, only HSU together Barito Kuala conducting mass medicine distribution (POMP) in all sub-districts in the region. While other districts in South Kalimantan only distribute the drug in certain sub-districts partially.
Global Filariasis Elimination since the declaration by WHO in 2000 to target the elimination of elephantiasis by 2020. The Ministry of Health also pursuing this as one of the priority in communicable disease control.
Masbudianto said POMP in 2014 demonstrated the need for cross-sectoral cooperation in combating elephantiasis to beimproved. Cooperation is particularly conduct with Education Agency so that all children of school age do not miss taking drugs to prevent filariasis.
