Barabai, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Pahalatan Village, the most downstream area in Central Hulu Sungai (HST) District, has been swamped by flood for more than a month making it difficult for residents to do activities and work, while it can only be accessed using a boat.
Concerned about the condition of the residents, a number of parties continue to distribute aid, one of which was Gerakan Peduli Sesama (GPS/Care for People Movement) Al-Umm HST.
Head of the relief organization Yuliansyah Abu Subki said before distributing assistance, his party first conducted a survey to find out what the flood-affected residents needed the most.
"After that, our volunteers immediately distributed logical assistance in the form of rice, sugar, cooking oil, and instant noodle, because these are the most needed," he said.
The assistance was handed over to the representatives of Pahalatan Village, namely the head of the village disaster mitigation, chief of neighborhood unit (RT) of 2 and 3, and the residents at the gate of the Pahalatan Village.
"We deliberately do not include side dishes, because based on data we collected, the residents catch fish every day so they have no problem with side dishes. So we prioritize food they really need," said Yuliansyah.

Meanwhile, Radi, the head of RT 2, was very grateful because the assistance was very useful for the residents at this time of disaster.
"As we have seen, the access road to our village is flooded with varying heights, to do activities we must use boats, land transportation is not possible, except for tall cars," he explained.
Pahalatan Village Head Junaidi explained that his village was often flooded, but this time the depth and time of inundation took a very long time.
"With several unusual floods, we suspect this is due to blockage of the channel at the upstream, so that water cannot flow smoothly and remained stagnant for a long time," he said.
He and the residents have tried to normalize the blockage but have not succeeded because there are too many.
"Hopefully the government or the authorities to pay attention to this condition, especially the blockage problem, so when the flood comes it will immediately subside and not too deep," he said.
