Jakarta (ANTARA) - Myanmar's military junta Chief General Min Aung Hlaing has confirmed participation in the ASEAN Leaders' Meeting (ALM) scheduled to be held at the ASEAN Secretariat here on Saturday.
General Hlaing arrived at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Saturday at 11 a.m. local time, according to a press release of the Presidential Secretariat.
Hlaing was greeted by Myanmar Ambassador to Indonesia Ei Ei Khin Aye and Head of the State Protocol Andy Rachmianto upon arrival at the airport.
Akin to the leaders and delegates from other countries participating in the ALM, the Myanmar military junta chief and delegation underwent a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) swab test and other health screenings in accordance with the application of health protocols.
He later left the airport en route to the venue of ALM at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.
ALM is initiated by Indonesia to discuss the issue of Myanmar. It is also a follow-up to the talks between the president of the Republic of Indonesia and the sultan of Brunei Darussalam, as the ASEAN chair.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi had earlier stated that the ALM was the first meeting of ASEAN leaders during a pandemic.
