Indramayu, W Java (ANTARA) - Floods triggered by heavy rains on Sunday swamped 18 sub-districts in Indramayu district, West Java, after many rivers overflowed their banks.
"At least 18 sub-districts have been submerged by floodwaters, both in the Cimanuk and Cipanas river basin areas," acting Indramayu district head Taufik Hidayat informed here on Monday.
He said the local government has sent rescue workers to evacuate people from flood-affected areas.
"We are still evacuating residents and their valuable belongings to higher ground," Hidayat said.
"We are still collecting data on the number of flooded houses. No fatalities have been reported so far," he added.
Flooding was reported in residential areas in several parts of the district early on Monday, with floodwaters reaching a height of one meter. (INE)
