Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - The Banjarmasin Livestock and Agricultural Quarantine has foiled smuggling hundreds of birds from Trisakti Port to Eas Java. Some bird species to be smuggled were 45 parrots, 137 Srindid and 173 green cucak.
Head of Agricultural Quarantine class 1 Banjarmasin Sri Hanum here on Thursday revealed that the exposure smuggling case when an officer asks quarantine certificate for birds ready to be dispatched.
"From the examination of the birds known the owner or the courier does not have a certificate from animal health quarantine, and there is no permission to remove the animal from Banjarmasin city government," he said.
Courier is also not able to show a letter from veterinarian authorities of the district of origin, and the animals finally secured.
According to Sri, in addition to the above papers, pet owner must obtain a permit from the provincial head of livestock agency that he may issue animal, and then submitted to quarantine for further action. Quarantine will examine whether the birds were healthy before issuing the letter.
While pet owners, added Sri, also must obtain a letter of recommendation from the goal area. Whereas, the province of South Kalimantan excluding free of bird flu, while East Java is implementing the free of bird flu program.
Furthermore, the animals secured will be checked. If qualified will be given an opportunity to the owner to send it over if the bird does not protected. But if they are protect species, they will be returned to their hometown.
