The Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, Regional Secretary H Said Akhmad handed over literacy certificates (Sukma) of basic literacy education program to the Kotabaru Penitentiary's inmates.
“The humanist approach by Head of Kotabaru Penitentiary and staff has succeeded in making coacing work very well, one of which is eradicating illiteracy. This helps the district government in its illiteracy eradicating program," he said here, as reported on Friday.
He said he always ready to help what is needed to support development program at the Kotabaru Prison.
A total 20 inmates received Sukma or literacy certificates after undergoing basic literacy test.

This progaram has been running since the penitentiary led by Yosef Yembise in early 2022. From 2022 to 2023, this program had freed 119 inmates from illiteracy.
Yosef Benyamin Yembise said Kotabaru Prison is fully commited to humanizing humans through various development activities that are best for its inmates.
“We always try to provide the best develoment, one of which is eradicating illiteracy. This also helps the government in education the life of the nation as mandated by the 1945 Constitution,” he said.
He thanked the Kotabaru Secretary who was present to hand over literacy certificates to the inmates and other invited guests at the event.
In addition to hand over literacy certificates, the Secretary also opened sign language training which was attended by the prison officers and inmates.
Iwan, one of inmates who received the literacy certificates, expressed he was moved and happy. He and friends did not expect to be able to read and write. He and his friends expressed their gratitude to their "father" Yosef (head of Kotabaru Prison) and his staff.
