The Kotabaru Penitentiary in South Kalimantan received sign language training from a Public Special Need School (SLBN) for its officers and inmates.
"We collaborate with the local Education Office for this activity by presenting two resource persons from SLB Negeri Kotabaru," said head of the penitentiary Yosef Benyamin Yembise here, Thursday.
This step is taken, he said, as a commitment of the penitentiary to improve the quality of public services and to assure that everyone has the same access to the services in the Kotabaru Penitentiary.

Sign language training is an effort to provide maximum service to officers, community members, and inmates (or what called warga binaan).
"This is part of improving pubic services at Kotabaru Penitentiary for people with special needs, so there is no discrimination in services," he pointed out.
the training is to facilitate communication for disabilities, such as deaf or speeach impaired, so they can maximize comunication both with fellow inmates and with officers.
Riduan, one of the prison employees, said he was excited with the new rare knowledge obtained, because it will make it easier to communicate with people with special needs who visit the Kotabaru Penitentiary, and it will make services can be maximized.
"This is a new knowledge that we receive. Hopefully we can learn it and apply it," said Riduan.
