Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of South Kalimantan Legislative Council (DPRD) Haji Muhammad Alpiya Rakhman hopes commemoration of Kotabaru's anniversary will serve as a moment of reflection and strengthening shared commitment.

"Strengthening of shared commitment is to continue to encourage development and community welfare," Alpiya emphasized when contacted on Tuesday after attending 76th anniversary of Kotabaru, the easternmost regency in South Kalimantan. 

The 76th anniversary of "Bumi Sa-ijaan" 2026, held at the Siring Laut Park attraction, carried the theme "Banua Rakat, Kotabaru Hebat” (a region united in harmony, Kotabaru is great).

The people's representative from the Gerindra Party also prayed that the district would become more advanced, prosperous, and able to provide the best services for the community. 

The representative from the electoral district of South Kalimantan 6 (Kotabaru and Tanah Bumbu districts) also hoped that the synergy between the local government, DPRD, business sector and the community to be well-established to support the acceleration of development in Kotabaru and South Kalimantan in general.

Kotabaru's anniversary was celebrated with the spirit of togetherness and served as a momentum to strengthen relationship between the government and the community in realizing and a more progressive and competitive region.

Several members of South Kalimantan DPRD from electoral district 6 also attended the celebration, including M. Yadi Mahendra and H. Firmansyah. 

Their presence demonstrates support for the progress and development of Kotabaru, which continue to grow year after year.

Bumi Sa-ijaan (Kotabaru's nickname) has considerable potential in natural resources, such as coal, as well as in agricultural sector in general, particularly oil palm plantation. 

Kotabaru has also potential marine and fishery resources, it borders the Sulawesi Sea, Makassar Strait, and Java Sea (Indonesian Sea). 

In the future, Pulau Laut, which is the capital of Kotabaru, will be connected to the mainland of Kalimantan by a bridge, so that people will no longer have to use ferry boats as they have to wait to cross.
