Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Member of the Commission IV of the House of Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR-RI) held a public consultation and opinion at the Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM).
The House is currently drafting a bill (RUU) to change the Law No. 4/1999 concerning forestry.
The experts were presented by ULM to provide input. They were forestry experts, conservation experts, legal experts, to economic experts. It is hoped the objectives of forest management for environmental sustainability while providing welfare for the community to be achieved.
"The most important thing is the essence of how this forestry is useful for all people. Indeed, making the law is not easy, but we need to protect the law especially for the common prosperity of the people," said the head of the House of Representatives' Commission IV H Guntur Sasono.
He agreed with what was conveyed by ULM Rector Prof. Sutarto Hadi that forests had a great influence on the lives of the wider community.
"Don't just think tactically for the sake of a moment but sacrifice the long term. Indonesia is the lungs of the world. Indonesia needs the forest. The community also needs environmental preservation that we will embrace in the Act," he explained.
Regarding the question of choosing ULM as a university that its thoughts is taken up, Guntur acknowledged that ULM that had just received A accreditation and had a place in the eyes of Indonesia nationally.
