Tanjung, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - After Banjarmasin, Tabalong will follow the movement to reduce plastic waste. A plastic bag conversion seminar was organized by the Sarabakawa Youth Association (Pusaka).
"We are cooperating with the local government, the private sector and the community to carry out the conversion of plastic bags movement," explained the Chairperson of the Pusaka Firman Yusi in Tanjung, Wednesday.
He said the plastic bag conversion movement in 'Bumi Sarabakawa' (Tabalong's nickname) had begun since the end of 2017.
Pusaka also cooperates with PT Pertamina EP Asset 5 Tanjung Field, the Environment Agency and the local waste bank association in this seminar.
PT Pertamina Tanjung Field Manager Muhammad Firdaus Sabaruddin expressed the company support in accordance with the joint commitment announced on February 26, 2016.
"This plastic waste reduction movement is a form of sustainable development and Pertamina is committed to the conversion of plastic bags to be realized," said Firdaus.
Head of the Environment Agency Rowi Rawatianice stated that the conversion of plastic bags must be carried out considering that it takes a very long time for the environment to receive plastic.
"Not only plastic waste, baby pads or diapers need 100 years to be accepted by the environment," explained Rowi.
The agency is currently preparing the Tabalong Regent regulations regarding the reduction of plastic waste and targets to implement in minimarkets or modern stores in 2019.
Plastic waste reduction will begin in the school environment.
The seminar presented resource persons from Banjarmasin Environment Agency Nanik and Giant supermarket representatives Sugian Noor as well as a presentation from Rowi Rawatianice.
