Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - The City Government of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan Province, is calling for real changes in clean and healthy living by holding Banjarmasin Environmental Award 2024.
It is organized by the Banjarmasin Environment Agency as an appreciation event to community, private, schools, urban villages, and sub-districts who made a real contribution to maintaining cleanliness and environment.
"We highly appreciate all parties who receive awards today. This is a clear evidence that we can raise awareness among the public to behave healthy, maintain cleanliness and manage waste well in households, offices, hotels, worship places, schools, and playgrounds," said Deputy Mayor H Arifin Noor at City Hall, Banjarmasin, Wednesday (Dec 18, 2024).
More than just a ceremony, he said, this ativity carried a deep message about the importance of cleanliness as part of faith.
"We want to raise awareness that disposing waste properly is worship," he said.

Arifin reminded that waste management is not only the government's responsibility but involves all component of society.
Education regarding good waste management will continue to be promoted, beginning from schools to religious community.
According to him, it is in line with the efforts to deal with climate change and making the City of Banjarmasin cleaner and more comfortable.
Sevent units of Tosa (three-wheeled waste transport) were handed over as additional facilities to support more effective waste management in certain places.
"We need to continue to increase these efforts, because Banjarmasin is not only part of the climate change solution, but must also be an example for other regions. The use of plastic bags must be minimized and waste must be managed using recycling principles," he said.
Apart from giving appreciation, the city government also affirmed its commitment to implementing strict rules regarding waste management, including enforcing sanctions for violators.
Arifin was optimistic that this appreciation will be a motivation for the community to continue to protect the environment and promote a cleaner and healthier life for future generations.
