Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Success with the ban on the use of plastic bags in modern shopping, Banjarmasin City Government will continue with the movement of bringing drink bottle to schools and offices.
"This is part of an effort to reduce plastic waste massively in the City," Mayor Ibnu Sina said here on Friday.
The bring tumbler (drink bottle) to school and office, said Ibnu, was successfully implemented by the Mayor of Bitung, who committed not to use bottled water during government events.
The movement, he acknowledged, is not easy, because it requires the commitment of all parties, and the struggle to change the pattern of daily life.
What is done by the Bitung City Government, he added, will be implemented in Banjarmasin, starting with the city's government employees and schools.
Soon, he continued, the city's government will distribute one thousand tumblers to schools, so they bring their own food and drink supplies from home.
The government, he said, has sent circulars to all schools in Banjarmasin, so that the policy is immediately disseminated to students and parents alike.
The policy has also been socialized to hotels, so they can reduce the use of bottled water.
Previously, Banjarmasin with the prohibition of using plastic bags for retail and minimarkets managed to reduce 15 percent of plastic waste in the landfill and prevent the utilization of 54 million plastic bags.
