Kandangan, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Sub-district Military Command (Koramil) 1003-08 South Daha held a joint forest and land fire (karhutla) patrol in three villages: Muning Baru, Baru Jaya and Siang Gantung, Soutn Hulu Sungai (HSS) District.
The 1003 Kandangan District Military Commander (Dandim) Lieutenant Colonel Inf Suhardi Aji Sriwijayanto through Sub-district Military Commander (Danramil) Captain Inf Bambang Kiswoyo in South Daha onWednesday (25/7) said the joint patrol is a prevention step in order no fire caused by people burning their land for plantation.
"This joint patrol is carried out every day involving various elements, three from Army (TNI), three police officers, six people of community and and six from Manggala Agni (firefighter brigades), targeting three villages per day," he said.
He said the joint patrol is very useful to prevent forest and land fires, caused by natural and irresponsible people. In the dry season allegedly there are residents who sneakly burned their land for gardening.
The Koramil also socializes to the residents not to clear their land by burning. In addition to causing air pollution, it threatens the swamp ecosystem and is a violation of the law.
"The majority of South Daha have swampy land, potential for forest and land fires in addition to the habit of residents burning land for farming or gardening in the dry season," he said.
The call not to burn forests and land continues to be carried out in cooperation with volunteers and community leaders to remind the community to be more aware of the ways of farming or gardening with a more friendly method without polluting the environment.
