Batulicin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The government of Tanah Bumbu District, South Kalimantan Province, collaborated with mining companies to implement waste exchange program, where people can trade waste for basic food.
"This program is to commemorate the World Environment Day," said Head of the Tanah Bumbu Environment Office (DLH) Rahmat Prapto Udoyo in Batulicin, Saturday.
The companies involved in this programs are PT Borneo Indobara with its seven partner companies, PT Hidup Baru Sukses Mandiri, PT Wijaya Sukses Mulia, PT Dea Global Niaga, PT Serasi Auto Raya, PT Cipta Kridatama, PT Geoservice, and Bang Julpikar’s main waste bank that managed sorted waste.

This is a continuation of similar program that was successfully carried out in Angsana Sub-district on June 5 to support the Ministry of Environment's national movement for a clean Indonesia by reducing waste from the source.
Various basic food such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, sardines, instant noodles, various spices and other basic necessities were provided to be exchanged with sorted inorganic waste. The waste received must meet the type and weight criteria determined by the committee.
Thus the waste were collected from households, offices, shops, and schools sorted by residents from a number of villages in Satui sub-district, such as Makmur Jaya, Makmur Mulia, Sungai Danau, and the surrounding.
From this activitiy, it was recorded that 654 participants took part with a total volume of waste collected 3.518 tons, consisting of plastic, paper/cardboard, cans, and iron.
"This is a real form of synergy between business world and local government in preserving the environment. This program is in line with vision and mission the the regional head, especially the fifth mision in community-based waste management," said Rahmat.
The plan is, he said, the activities will continue to be held in various subdistricts and villages/urban villages by involving various parties, including private companies, DLH, sub-district and village government, and Bang Julpikar’s main waste bank.
