Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Environment and Forestry (LHK) Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar inaugurated a 14 hectares Liang Anggang Nursery, which is built in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, in collaboration with PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk.
“Thank you for the support of all parties in building this large scale nursery. I consider that access to nursery in South Kalimantan is more ideal that nurseries in other areas,” said the minister after the inauguration in Banjarbaru, Monday.
The plan was, she said, the inauguration to be carried out by President Joko Widodo, but due to busy activities, the LHK Minister was then present to represent him.
“The Liang Anggang Nursery is capable to produce 10 million seeds per year, this is an important step in the government's effort to rehabilitate forest and land, especially in Kalimantan,” she said.

LHK Minister said that of the total 14 hectares nursery area, 6,6 hectares are center for seed production reaching 10 million plant per year with types of wood seeds, non-timber forest products, endemic and aesthetic plants.
The nursery was built under a collaboration between LHK Ministry, the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry, as well as a private company, PT Adaro Energy Indonesia.
Liang Anggang Nursery was built with a fund of IDR154 billion, including from PT Adaro IDR120 billion for main and supporting facilities , LHK Ministry IDR11 billion, PUPR Ministry IDR19.2 billion for raw water supply, and Norway's contribution of IDR3.8 billion.
Meanwhile, President Director of PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk Garibaldi Thohir said he was very proud to have the opportunity to carry out mandate from LHK Ministry to build and managing this nursery, so that Adaro can contribute to handling critical land in various regions.
In addition, it would also help Indonesia in the effort of mitigating global climate change, which is in line with the direction of President Joko Widodo to build large-scale nursery in every province to support ecosystem recovery through forest and land rehabilitation, including reclamation of former mining areas.
Two years ago, Adaro inked an MoU with LHK Ministry. Now, this nursery in South Kalimantan has produced superior quality seeds with multifuction plant types to be ditributed to critical land throughout Indonesia.
Apart from Liang Anggang Nursery, LHK Minister simultaneously inaugurated several nurseries outside South Kalimantan via virtual, namely Labuan Bajo Nursery (NTT), Mandalika Nursery (NTB), Likupang Nursery (North Sulawesi), and Toba Nursery (North Sumatra).
