Marabahan, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Three regional heads in South Kalimantan —Banjarmasin Mayor M Yamin, Banjar Regent H Saidi Mansyur and Barito Kuala (Batola) Regent H Bahrul Ilmi— met to discuss sustainable waste management solution in Banjarmasin Mayor's office, Thursday (April 2, 2026).
In their meeting, they agreed that waste management requires thorough budget preparation, including capital expenditures and clear regulations.
This is considered crucial to prevent social problems arising in the community due to less-optimal waste management.

Banjar Regent H Saidi Mansyur offered the importance of implementing sustainable waste management project.
"Programs should not be designed for short term, it should be able to providelong long term benefits for the environment and community," he said in a statemen received here on Saturday.
One of the challanges in waste management acceleration, said Batola Regent H Bahrul Ilmi, the lengthy permitting process, such as Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL).

However, he emphasized, the need for concrete initial step to prevent continued accumulation of waste.
Meanwhile, Banjarmasin Mayor M Yamin expressed his hope that joint efforts would create more cleaner and beautiful regions.
“This is for a shared goal, to have positive impact on the community,” he pointed out.
The meeting, he hopes, would be the firs step in inter-regional synergy in creating an integrated, sustainable waste management system, and the results of discussion would be immediately followed up by the relevant agencies, particularly Environment Office.

In their meeting, they also discussed waste processing into something valuable, as a concept promoted by he central government.
It is hoped that waste is not longer merely waste, but can be processed into environmentally friendly raw material and energy source.
The results of their meeting will be submitted to the Ministry of Environment for further coordination, including planning a joint meeting between local government and the ministry.
