Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - PT Pelsart Tambang Kencana (PT PTK), a gold mining company in Kotabaru, is collaborating with Banian community health center (puskesmas) to hold "little doctor" training for elementary school (SD) students.

CSR Manager of PT PTK Septamto L. Inkiriwang said the company's support for children's health program in its surrounding areas is significant. 

"Health development from school age is part of improving the quality of human resources in the region," he said in Banian as reported on Monday.

Debby Wahyudi, Secretary of Sungai Durian Sub-district, said collaboration between the government, health facility, and business world is crucial for building health awareness from early age. 

"Children need to be encouraged to become agent of change in the school and surrounding communities,” she said.

Head of Banian Puskesmas Akbar expounded that little doctor training is part of health promotion and prevention efforts.

“Throgh this program, students are expected to be role model in applying healthy lifestyle (PHBS), both in school and at home,” he said.

For two days of the program, participants attended interactive material presented by health officers, including proper handwashing practices, familiarized with balanced nutrition, and simulation of treating minor injuries.

Ashila, a four grade student of public elementary school SDN Buluh Kuning, said she enjoyed participating in the activity.

“The activities were fun and easy to understand. I become more confident in maintaining my health and helping friends,” she said.

The training attended by 55 students from three elementary schools within the Banian Puskesmas coverage area: SDN Buluh Kuning (30 students), SDN Gendang Timburu (19 students), and SDN Rantau Buda (6 students).
