Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin received a courtesy visit from the UN Palestine Committee at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday to discuss Indonesia and the Indonesian people's support for Gaza.
Senegal's permanent representative to the UN, Cheikh Niang, expressed his gratitude for Indonesia's support and strong commitment to the Palestinian issue.
Niang was quoted by the Indonesian Vice Presidential Office's press statement issued following his courtesy call as saying that he agreed with VP Amin regarding the situation in Palestine.
He also agreed that international efforts must continue to be increased, especially support from Indonesia, said Niang, who is also chair of the Bureau of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP).
During the UN Palestine Committee's visit, part of a tour to many countries, he lauded the support from the Indonesian government and its people for the demand for a ceasefire in Palestine.
On the same occasion, the Palestinian Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Riyad Mansour, praised the positive response and feedback from the Indonesian Vice President.
He said he was glad to hear a positive response from VP Amin regarding the importance of shifting the commitment of the existing action plan from support to practical steps taken together.
Mansour, who is also the permanent observer for Palestine, conveyed three messages to Amin, starting with the importance of stopping the ongoing violence and cruelty in Palestine through a ceasefire.
Then, the importance of ensuring aid distribution to Palestine, and state recognition of a sovereign Palestine.
The CEIRPP chair earlier met with Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi on Thursday. He is also scheduled to meet Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and Indonesian community organizations.
Other committee bureau members visiting Indonesia included Indonesia's permanent representative, Arrmanatha Nasir; Namibia's permanent representative, Neville Gertze; and Malaysia's permanent representative, Ahmad Faisal Muhammad.
