Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - The provincial government of South Kalimantan is rehabilitating approximately 12,000 hectares of agricultural land affected by flooding that occurred in late December 2025 to mid-January 2026.
Head of the South Kalimantan Agriculture and Food Security Office Syamsir Rahman here on Saturday said around 12,000 hectares of agriculture land were affected by floods in the districts of Banjar, Tapin, Barito Kuala and Tanah Laut.
He expounded that the flooded land included rice, corn, and horticultural crops has not been able to be cutivated by farmers and need to be recovered.

"Even though floodwater starting to recede, but farmers are still unable to cultivate their land or to replant, because the soil condition are unstable," he said.
Currently, Syamsir said, the provincial Agriculture and Food Security Office together with the district and city government conducting close monitoring to identify damage on the ground.
Several regions, such as Banjar District, was reported to independently begin preparing aid for farmer groups in its area.

"Considering budget cuts this year, we will be more selective in providing assistance. We will encourage extension workers and pest control officers to re-identify the aid to ensure it reach the right target," said Syamsir.
Further coordination will be discussed in technical coordination meeting (Rakortek) scheduled for next week.
Given the budget constraints at the provincial level, the district government are expected to play a greater role in providing seeds to affected farmers.
