Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Kotabaru DPRD member Gewsima Mega Putra empowers millennial farmers in Pulau Laut Utara Sub-district to cultivate oyster mushroom for its promising economic value.
"Our assisten (farmers) have completed study on oyster mushroom cultivation in Banjarmasin City," said Gewsima Mega Putra in Kotabaru, Sunday.
This activity, he said, began with the intention to foster business spirit of Kotabaru's young people, alog with the intention to develop Kotabaru through agrotourism.
The potential for developing millennial farmers in oyster mushroom is considered very promising in Kotabaru which has agribusiness vision and mission.
Especially, since oyster mushroom can be process into various home industrial food products which are quite popular with consumers.

One of the millennial farmers assisted by PDIP, Muhammad Ilham, said he was proud to be selected as one of participant to study at the Banjarmasin Agriculture Service.
"Here we cultivate mushroom using baglog system," said Ilham.
The first thing to do, he said, was to make 1,000 baglogs with a target of harvesting about 500 kg oyster mushrooms.
In the period of three months, mushroom can be harvested four times. The estimated market price of mushroom is Rp30,000 per kg.
He hopes he will be able to develop oyster mushroom cultivation in Kotabaru so that other young people can do the same to get reliable economic value.
