Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Farmers in the Rukun Makmur Farmers Group succeeded i harvesting 7,01 tons cornn in the middle of long dry season in Dua Kali Sanga Village, Hampang Sub-district, Kotabaru, South Kalimantan.
"Even though it was dry season, they were able to harvest 7.01 tons corn on an area of 20 hectares," said Kotabaru Administration's Assistant for Government and Peole's Welfare Minggu Basuki here, Wednesday.
He said the agricultural potential in Kotabaru is very promising if managed well, and it was proven by the hard work of Rukun Makmur Farmers Group managing the land until the harvest was successful.
"Congratulation on the corn harvest managed by farmers group in Dua Kali Sanga Village, together with Agriculture Office and counseling workers for their guidance to farmers," he said.
He hopes this success could be an example for other area to maximize the potential in their respective area, so they can provide economic value and improve the economic level in local villages.

Head of Kotabaru Food Security and Agriculture Saperiani said that in the midst of frought that hit all areas in Kotabaru, the Rukun Makmur Farmers Group were able to harvest 20 hectares of corn with a yield of more than 7 tons.
"Alhamdulillah (Thank God), thanks to hard work of farmers group, communities, counseling workers, and Agriculture Office we can harvest together," said Saperiani.
Saperiani admitted that this harvest achievement had decreased from the usual of around 8 tons on the same area.
"Possibly it was because of drought factor," he said.
On that occasion, Head of Kotabaru Food Security and Agriculture handed over an assistance of 1,275 kg of corn seeds, 8.000 kg of NPK fertilizer, 4,000 kg of urea fertilizer to 11 farmers group in Hampang, Kelumpang Hulu, and Kelumpang Hilir sub-districts.
