Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - Water and Air Police Unit (Satpolairud) of the Banjarmasin Police cleaned up rubbish dumped on Martapura River and blocking water traffic.
"A lot of rubbish is stuck in the river flow, piles up under the Antasari Bridge, and disrupts river transportation," said Chief of Banjarmasin Satpolair AKP Dading Kalbu here, Friday.
The clean up action under the Antasari Bridge, he said, was carried out on Friday morning together with PUPR Office, water rescue, and river care volunteers.
A lot of rubbish such as water hyacinth plants, wood, household waste and other type of waste. The pile up rubbish was then pulled and transported using river cleaning boat.

As a result of the pile up rubbish spreading under the bridge, the Martapura River route was disrupted, river transportation was difficult or unable to pass.
"Alhamdulillah, thanks to our mutual cooperation finally the garbage that blocked the flow of the river was cleaned and can be passed by river transport," he said.
Dading said that river in Banjarmasin City must always be kept clean, because it is an icon of the city with the nickname "City of a Thousand Rivers".
The river in the city is also a place to earn a living. If the river is clean, the river ecosystem is well maintained.
"(If) the river is clean, a lot of fish will come and useful for fishermen in looking for freshwater fish in the river," he said.
