Rantau, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Tapin District, south Kalimantan, clean-up Tapin River as an effort to handle flood.
"Almost a truck of garbage has been cleaned up," said Head of Tapin BPBD Raniansyah in Rantau, Wednesday.
For three hours, the joint team, involving soldiers (TNI), police (Polri), BPBD and volunteers, exploring the river from the sub-district of Bungur to Tapin Utara, they found a lot of rubbish blocking the river flow.
"We clean up the rubbish that blocks river flow," he said.
The dominance of waste, he said, is household waste, such as plastics, also rubbish in the form of tree branches thrown into the river.

Based on the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), he said, peak rainfall in South Kalimantan to occur in January 2024.
He revealed that based on the Tapin BPBD's 2022 map of prone areas, the potential for flooding in the district covering 22 villages and urban villages in seven sub-districts.
Meanwhile, acting Regent of Tapin Syarifuddin said that the district government is committed to paying attention to the need of the BPBD in dealing with disasters.
"We will the equipment completeness of Tapin BPBD, if there is something incomplete then we will add it," he said.
Especially for Tapin River, Syarifuddin said that the local government relies on early warning system to detect flood to mitigate impact of disasters on communities living along the riverbank.
