Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Tens of thousands of PDAM Banjar Intan customers will suffer difficulties to get clean water due to maintenance of Riam Kanan irrigation channels.
Technical Director of PDAM Intan Banjar Said Umar in Banjarbaru on Thursday said that the maintenance of irrigation channels along 24 kilometers will be lasted for five days (5-9 September 2016).
"The water level in the irrigation in time of maintenance ranges between 40-50 meters from the normal height of 80-120 meters, so that clean water production and supply to customers is decreased," he said.
He said the number of customers affected by the taps routine activity as many as 35 thousand. They are scattered in Banjarbaru and Martapura.
Raw water processed by Pinus Water Treatment Plant (IPA) owned by PDAM Intan Banjar comes from Riam Kanan. Each time of maintenance, water production is interrupted.
"The maintenance of irrigation is to reduce weed that thrives along the channel, so a water reduction has to be done that weeds can be cut," he said.
Committing Officer (CO) of Riam Kanan Irrigation Herry Ade Permana said, maintenance of irrigation is done by clearing weeds manually and also using heavy equipment.
"The length of irrigation canals which water discharge will be reduced reached 16 kilometers and the cleaning to be done manually or using heavy equipment to get rid of weeds," he said.
He said, the company will strive to maintain the water level irrigation channels up to 50 meters so that IPA Pinus still producing clean water and distribute it.
"We try to keep the water level not less than 50 meters. The work will be done quickly, to be completed quickly and the production of clean water back to normal," he said.
