Kandangan, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The District Government of South Sungai Selatan (HSS) keeps anticipating and preventing forest and land fires(karhutla), one of which by setting an alert status.
"From June to July 2023, our data shows that karhutla in HSS has reached 20 hectares," said Chief Executive of HSS Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Kusairi said in Kandangan, Thursday.
He said, most of the lands burned were vacant or unproductive land, partly due to degligence of people looking for fish, throwing away cigarette butts or mosquito coils, that triggered fires. Others were suspected of being deliberately set on fire by irresponsible persons.
"20 hectares of unused lands that were burned we could tackled them with related agencies and volunteers, because the distance is still reachable (accessible)," he said.
