The Police Chief revealed several methods of operation or modus operandi used by perpetrators of TPPO which is increasingly prevalent in Indonesia.
"One common mode is offering and lure people with jobs abroad," Tri Suhartanto noted in a press statement in Kotabaru, Thursday.
He expounded that perpetrators would usually send the victim using a visit visa and buy a round-trip tiket, but that's real destination is smuggling victims to other countries is different from what was offered at the beginning.
Other tactic that is often used is tying the victim with unclear employment contract and writtenin a anguage the victims does not understand. This has the potential to make it difficult for victims to understand their rights and trap them in situation of unfair exploitation.
"In addition, TPPO perpetrators often recruit victims without involving legitimate companies, which make the recruitment process more difficult to trace," he pointed out.
For this reason, the Chief of Police invites the public to report suspicious event or activities related to human trafficking to the nearest police office.
By reporting TPPO perpetrators, he continued, the community could play role in eradicating this crime and protecting people from becoming victims of human trafficking.
