Kandangan, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Government of South Hulu Sungai (HSS) District together with the Indonesian Orchid Society (PAI) have inaugurated the District General Hospital of Brigjend H Hasan Basry, Kandangan, as Orhid Conservation Park as well as Orhid Conservation Center.
"I am happy and proud that Kandangan Hospital becomes the first hospital to own orchid conservation park and this is the first in Indonesia," said the Chair of the South Kalimantan Board of PAI Hj. Arinda Dian Susanti as quoted from HSS Communication and Informatics Office's (Diskominfo HSS) press release, Sunday.
She said it was a very proud collaboration between orchid lovers and the local government. Especially the HSS Regent who was willing to be the patron of the organization and the Director of the Kandangan Hospital who was very involved in the activities.
"South Kalimantan now has eight district boards (DPC), (but) only two that have Orchid Conservation Park; first in Batu Benawa Pagat (HST) and second in Kandangan Hospital," Arinda said.

Regent H. Achmad Fikry said that environment tends to be identical with green trees, but now it's not just green. It must be beautiful, thus the trees need to be attached with orchids.
He hopes trees infront of his offices will also be attached with orchids. He also asked the board of PAI to conserve orchids in HSS District.
Head of HSS Public Housing, Settlement, and Environment Ronaldy Prana Putra thanked to Kandangan Hospital.
Chair of the HSS orchid lovers (PAI) Siluh Komang Windu Sumertini said that two thousand of orchid seeds have been planted in the hospital environment.
The two thousand orchid, she said, which were derived from 50 species of Meratus orchids, become the Orchid Conservation Park.
“Nowadays there are many land conversion in South Kalimantan. It is worrying that the orchids in the forest to be extinct, So conservation need to be done and Kandangan Hospital was chosen as the center for orchid conservation," Windu said at quoted from the press release of Diskominfo HSS, Sunday.
