Tanjung (ANTARA) - A village development program, initiated by PT Saptaindra Sejati (PT SIS) and the Amanah Bangun Negeri Foundation (YABN), successfully developed the original 212 and caliber variety of tiung chili, with the first harvest reaching 15 kilograms in Maburai Village, Tabalong District, South Kalimantan.
PT SIS Management Representative, Fecky R Umboh, said the one-hectare chili garden trial is part of a village development effort surrounding the company's operations to encourage economic empowerment through sustainable utilization of local potential.
"This village development is part of the company's commitment to grow and develop along with the community," Fecky said on Thursday.
It is expected that the development of these local chili varieties continue to increase over time through a collaborative approach with the support of the village government.
Fecky told that the program began with phased mentoring, from planning and technical training to strengthening program management to ensure its sustainability.
"We want to encourage local potential to develop optimally and provide long-term benefits by collaborating with the village government and supporting partners as key to the program's sustainability," he said.
The first harvest was attended by the Maburai village government as a form of support for village development and to strengthen synergy in promoting inclusive and sustainable village development.
This assisted chili garden program is expected to become an example of good practices in village development around the company's operational area.
