Amuntai, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The North Hulu Sungai (HSU) Education Agency is now working hard to completely eradicate illiteracy in the district until the end of 2016.
Head of PAUDNI (early childhood education in formal and nonformal) Development of the Education Agency Hj Lailatanur Raudah here on Tuesday said that the number of illiterate people left estimated 1,250 of all ages.
"This year the center and provinces assisted for a total of 90 study groups. It is estimated that the number of illiterate people left over 1,250 people completed this year, leaving only about 0.5 percent," said Lailatanur.
Until the end of 2013 the number of illiterate people in the HSU was large enough to reach 3,173 people, but as the implementation of the Functional Literacy program (KF) then it left about 1,250 people and has entered the data into as many as 1,050 people proposed in KF April-September 2016 program.
KF program implementation between 2014-2015, said Lailataur, managed to literate the illiterate among the citizens as much as 1,923 people, leaving about 1,250 people to be completed this year.
In addition to teaching latin literacy and numeracy, she added, through the Community Learning Programme (PKBM) they also taught to read and write the Arabic alphabet, although not required by the ministry (Kemendikbud).
Lailatanur admitted the existence of illiterate people are not fully recorded by the Education Agency because some people are still shy and not honestly acknowledged that he could not read or write.
"So if we held community learning group activities, we perforced to disguise the name of our activities so that citizens are willing to join," he explained.
