Amuntai, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Hulu Sungai Utara (HSU) Police Chief AKBP Agus Nuryanto reminded people to quickly put out small fires that burn land before they grow and spread.
"Small fires must not be ignored. Put them out immediately to prevent from growing out of control," he said in Amuntai, HSU capital, South Kalimantan, Monday.
The Chief immediately jumped into action to help extinguish peatland fires broke out today in Beringin Village, Banjang Sub-district, HSU.

Thanks to the swift cooperation of a joint team from HSU Police, Banjang Police and local firefighter volunteers, the fire was successfully extinguished.
Agus pointed out that in this situation synergy and speed are the main keys to preventing the spread of fires that could threaten reasidential areas.
"The main focus is to stopping the fire first, prevent it from spreading. Use whatever firefighting equipment you have," he said when directing his officers in the field, led by Banjang Police Chief AKP Robby Ansharie Bahasuan.
He warned that anyone clearirng land by burning would face criminal prosecution according to applicable law.
"I have ordered to arrest those who burn land. There must be no tolerance in cases of forest and land fires to protect the environment and public health," he affirmed.
