Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - Over 15 people were reported to be trapped in the ruin of an Alfamart outlet on Ahmad Yani Street km 14, Gambut, Banjar District, that was suddenly collapsed ahead of Maghrib prayer, Monday, April 18, 2022.
Banjar Deputy Police Chief Commissioner Mohammad Fihim who was on the site said that the number of victims was based on witnesseth of witnesses in the field.
"The number comprises of six Alfamart's employees and nine visitors who were shopping on the time of the accident," he said to Antaranews.
As of Monday night, efforts to save victims who were trapped were still being carried out by joint team of TNI-Polri, Basarnas, BPBD, and volunteers from community.
Fihim said one of Alfamart's employees had been successfully evacuated from the rubble in safe condition and brought to the nearest community health center (puskesmas).
"The victim was injured, alhamdulilah she is still alive," he said.
Fihim acknoledged that the rescue process required heavy equipment to lift the wreckage of the destroyed building. Meanwhile, rescuers continued to search victims.
The sudden collapse of the Alfamart convinience store on Ahmad Yani Street km 14 caused a total traffic jam. Many people wanted to take a closer look at the location.
