Rantau, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Tapin District is now developing up and down stream bird's eye chili industry through the Agriculture Office, Head of Tapin Development Planning, Research and Development Agency (Bappelitbang) Meidy Harris Prayoga informed.
"The goal is to increase production, productivity and quality of sustaiable horticulture," said Meidy in Rantau, Tapin, Sunday.
For the effectiveness of the program, Meidy said, the government is rehabilitating swamp land, providing seed assistance and post-harvest management.
"The impact to be achieved is increasing regional economic independence and equity," he said.

This regional innovation has shown increasingly results every year. Now it is recorded that 405 families or 75 percent of Hiyung population earn their living from this hottest chili in Indonesia.
"The level of people income from the fresh chili farming sector for 0.5 hectare land per year is in the range of Rp61 million - Rp119 million," he said.
While, derivative products in the form of processed chili floss are Rp138,000 per kg, then chili sauce Rp231,000 per kg.
"The typical products being marketed are 28 varieties of Hiyung bird's eye chili," said Meidy.
Previously, Regional Secretary Sufiansyah said that the regency government of Tapin, South Kalimantan, is designing up and down stream industry in agriculture with the aim to build sustainable people's economy by involving millennials.
He said that the district will develop agribusiness, which is considered to be one of strategic issues, to build up and down stream agriculture industry.
