Batu City, East Java (ANTARA) - Death toll from Thursday's flash flood in Batu City, East Java, climbed to five, as three other victims were found on early Friday.
Head of the city's disaster mitigation agency (BPBD), Agung Sedayu, stated here that the agency had identified two victims as Wiji and Sarip, both residents of Sambong Village.

"Five people were found dead, six were rescued, and four others were still missing," he remarked.
A joint team of rescue workers has focused on search operations to find more likely victims, remove debris resulting from the flood, establish shelters for evacuees, and distribute logistics to the survivors.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) in its statement confirmed about having sent humanitarian aid to the region, comprising 200 blankets, two tents, 201 packages of meals, 200 sheets of mattress, and two thousand masks.
A flash flood triggered by heavy rains struck East Java’s Batu City on Thursday, destroying at least 21 homes in six areas.
The flooding had compelled hundreds of residents to seek refuge.
Batu is a mountainous area, a resort city some 90 kilometers southwest of Surabaya, the capital city of East Java.
