Pangkalan Bun, C Kalimantan (ANTARA) - A joint search and rescue team retrieved bodies of three out of 10 gold miners buried under the debris of a landslide hitting a small-scale mining site in Sei Seribu, Pangkut, West Kotawaringin, Central Kalimantan.
"We have found three miners, all of whom died after being buried under the debris of the landslide," North Arut Sub-district Military Commander Capt. Yunus Aji stated here on Saturday.
The three victims are identified as Yuda (24), Rana Solihat (20), and Nurhidayat (28), all of whom hailed from Tasikmalaya District, West Java.
The evacuation was halted on Friday night in the wake of heavy rains lashing the location.
"Last night, at 9:30 p.m. local time, the evacuation process was halted owing to heavy rains and the location being mud-covered. The evacuation process would be resumed today whilst awaiting the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) to provide another option for the evacuation process," he revealed.
A landslide that struck a small-scale gold mining area in Sei Seribu on Wednesday afternoon buried 10 miners.
Information is yet unavailable on the cause of the landslide, but the 10 miners -- Tatan (30), Muharom (22), Yuda (24), Reza (20), Rana (20), Susa (25), Bayu (25), Dian (26), Mukadir (47), and Nurhidayat (28) -- had allegedly dug the mining hole to such an extent that it perforated an old hole already left by miners.
