Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Banjarmasin City has a new icon of culinary tourism, a foating restaurant places at the Martapura River embankment (siring) right at the front of City Hall.
The foating restaurant, which is owned by a joint venture of 21 cooperatives in the city, was inaugurated by Banjarmasin Mayor H Ibnu Sina, Monday.
"Hopefully this will become a new icon of tourism in Banjarmasin, especially since the floating restaurant offers Banjar specialties," he said.
The restaurant is certainly interesting to visit, because of the sensation of eating on the river.
He was sure this restaurant will be a success, especially the owners were 21 cooperatives who have more than 5,000 members.
"We are the city government always support the business of new entrepreneurs and cooperatives to continue to exist, including this floating restaurant," he said.

Chairman of the Banjarmasin Foating Restaurant Cooperative Sumarno said that the construction of the restaurant was full of their struggles, because it required a quite large cost of about IDR1.2 billion.
"The construction of the restaurant needed 2 years to be completed, thanks to a lot of support from all parties," he said.
Sumarno told, to get the barge alone, his party got a very cheap price from PT Basirih Industri.
"Our commitment is not merely to profit, but also to support tourism," he said.
