Kandangan, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Climate Field School (SLI), organized by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophyisics (BMKG) of the Banjarbaru Climatology Station in collaboration with the South Hulu Sungai (HSS) Agriculture Office, carried out the first planting in Samuda Village, Daha Selatan Sub-district.
Head of the Banjarbaru Climatology Station Goeroeh Tjiptanto inSamuda, Tuesday (August 11, 2020), said that Samuda Village was chosen as the location of first planting because of its uniqueness. If all over Indonesia usually first planting starts at the beginning of the dry season, but here planting begins in the dry season.
"This year dry season still has a lot of water or is often called a wet-dry, and surely there will be more challenges in farming," he said.
He explained that BMKG wanted to assist farmers along with agriculture counseling team (PPL) and pest observers to anticipate pest that may attack farmers' crops.
The SLI carried out for Harakat Farmers Group in Samuda Village can be a pioneer or example for other farmers in South Kalimantan in the commodity of rice crops, especially for swamplands.
Deputy Regent of HSS Syamsuri Arsyad said he welcomed the inaugural planting of swamp rice for the 2020 planting season. This activity was expected to be an effort to increase rice production in the region.
"Also to meet the need of the community as well as to achieve food self-sufficiency. Our potential to continue to increase agriculture production is very possible, because it is supported by abundant water sources, irrigation and available paddy fields,” he said.
SLI is expected to increase farmers' insight about climate and weather to be used for agriculture activities, as one of factors of agricultural success is climatic conditions that influence.
he asked farmers not to clear their land by burning. "Burning land will face legal problems and of course very detrimental. Some have been processed and others have had permanent legal force," he reminded.
SLI activities was followed virtually by member of Commission V of the House of Reprentative Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda and BMKG's Deputy of Climatology Herizal, and all climatology station throughout Indonesia via video conference.
