Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - The Kotabaru Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) started to take inventory and be aware of flooding vulnerable areas as heavy rainfall increasing.
"Currently high intensity rainfall began. To anticipate floods, BPBDs start to be aware of flood-prone points," said Head of Kotabaru BPBD Tri Basuki Rachmad on Tuesday.
There are at least three flood-prone subdistricts of 21 subdistricts in Kotabaru, namely are Hampang, Kelumpang
Hulu and Sungai Durian. "The floods in the three subdistricts area were classified," he said.
With extreme weather and high rainfall lately, people in the three subdistrict are expected to be alert in case of heavy rain, especially at night. "To avoid a flood, all parties should be alert and prepare equipment for rescue," he explained.
Basuki said, BPBD have been coordinating with the sub-district heads, and all the heads of villages in the three
in prone areas to remain vigilant, especially in extreme weather conditions. BPBD also alerting officers to help the community.
In 2012, there were 140 flood victims in Kotabaru, five of whom died. As for 2013, one flood victims died.
