Rantau, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Flood in Binuang Sub-district, Tapin, South Kalimantan, was caused by shallow condition of Raya Belanti River that it could not accomodate large water from a quite long heavy rains.
"Downpour all night have caused the shallow river in Raya Belanti Urban Village to overflow and flooded three neighborhood units (RT)," Binuang Police Chief 1st Insp. Guntur Setyo Pambudi remarked on Wednesday (Dec 1, 2020).
According to him the low building of dike also caused river water to easily overflow out. He said it must became an attention of all relevant parties, so the similar disaster can be anticipated and the impact will be minimized.
"In situation of flood, we appeal residents not to be panic, because the flood is only temporary when the river overflowed after the rain," Guntur said.
The flood have inundated Jalan Pantai Belanti, Raya Belanti Urban Village, and had effected 30 houses inhabited by 118 residents.
"Height of the water was about 20 centimeter caused residents could not do their activities in their houses, such as cooking and other things. But the water now is getting to recede," Guntur informed.

Weather forecaster of the Syamsudin Noor Meteorology Station Rizqi Nur Fitriani said, in the first 10 days of January 2020, downpour is predicted to occur in most part of South Kalimantan at 50 mm level with a chance of about 90 percent.
"Rainfall accompanied with strong wind and lightning shuld be watched out, because they have a big potential at the peak of high rainfall now," he warned.
