The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan declared an alert on dengue hemmorrhagig fever (DBD) to respond 82 cases found in January 2024.
"Two of them died," said Head of South Kalimantan Health Office Diauddin in Banjarmasin, Wednesday.
He said dengue cases early this year has increased compared to last year in the same period.
"Last year there were less than 80 cases, now by mid-January 2024 there were more," he said.
In total last year, he said, dengue fever cases reached 3,113 with a death toll of 20 people.
The highest cases last year was in Banjar District, then South Hulu Sungai and Central Hulu Sungai.
"Early this year the most cases were found in Banjarbaru City, also in South Hulu Sungai and Central Hulu Sungai," said Diauddin.

Although the number of cases of disease caused by Aedes aegypti mosquito has increased quite significantly, Diauddin stated that the status has not yet raised to an extraordinary event (KLB).
"Our provincial dengue fever has not yet reached the KLB," he stressed.
The provincial government urges all residents to be aware of the transmission of this disease by implementing environmental cleanliness so that mosquitoes cannot breed.
"District and city governments are also asked to increase awareness of dengue fever to the public," he said.
Especially during the high rainfall season, it makes it easier for dengue mosquitoes to breed in standing water.
"That's why we have to eradicate it together," said Diauddin.
