Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan Environment Office (DLH) implemented “waste exchange for basic necessities” program to overcome waste problems.
“We are campaigning waste sorting. People come with waste has been sorted, weighed and purchased by DLH. This program is extraordinary funded by CSR from PT Adaro and Bank Kalsel,” said South Kalimantan Governor Muhidin after monitoring weighing of sorted inorganic waste in Banjarmasin, Saturday.
He was confident, if CSR support continues to the program it will be able to overcome waste emergency in South Kalimantan, especially in Banjarmasin city.

Meanwhile, waste from Banjarmasin that is dumped into Banjarbakula Regional Final Disposal usually could reach 600 ton per day, but now it has started to decrease to 400 or 300 tons. He hopes it will drop again to below 200 tons per day.
In waste exchange program, DLH weighs the waste deposited by residents at least three kilograms, after which it will be exchanged for a coupon to get basic needs, such as cooking oil, sugar, and instant noodle.
If the value of waste is above Rp10.000, you get at least 1 kg of sugar or cooking oil, double the profit from the estimated price. Even, you have a chance to get a bonus of suitable used if there is still stock.
To this end, Muhidin asked the public to sort the waste before dumping it. Sorted waste can be sold to the nearest waste bank.
He acknowledged not all people know about this program, so it will be socialized continuosly to let the wider community know the program that is economically beneficial and creates clean environment.
“Although a little it useful. Sort what you can sell, the rest dump to the landfill. In the future, the program not only in Banjarmasin, we will expand it to 12 other districts and cities,” said the Governor.
Acting Head of South Kalimantan DLH Fathimatuzzahra said one of the education to the community is that waste can provide economic value if sored properly.
“We hope that the public realize the importance of sorting waste properly. Waste bank is available, please exchage the sorted waste for basic necessities,” she said.
Banjarmasin Mayor Muhammad Yamin appreciated DLH's measures to launch the waste exhchange for basic necessities program.
“We will continue. However, we first coordinate with several companies to support funding. This is one of the good program to solve the waste problem in the city,” he said.
