Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - South Kalimantan Forestry Office is intensifying forest and land rehabilitation (RHL) by embracing local community to plant trees to increase land cover in Belangian Village, Aranio Sub-district, Banjar District.
“We collaborate with villagers to strengthen social forestry program through forestry partnership scheme,” said head of the office Fathimatuzzahra here on Monday (May 12, 2025).
The aim, she said, is to build synergy between government and community in sustainable forest management through a plan to plant dwarf (genjah/entog) coconut over an area of approximately 300 hectares.

“This type of coconut plant has high economic value, (and we will) also plant additional plantings of fruits and wood to increase land cover and for the welfare of community around the forest in Belangian Village,” said Fathimatuzzahra.
The Forestry Office, Forest Ranger contract Workers (TKPH) and Sultan Adam Forest Park have reviewed the field conditions, discussed with the community, and identified the potential and challanges of implementing forest partnership in the area.
Fathimatuzzahra emphasized that this collaboration is a commitment of local government in realizing a fair and sustainable community-based forest management.
She told that transformation in the Belangian Village area was also an example of the real success of RHL, because in early 2019 the path here was only a field of grass and looked barren.
However, thanks to the hard work of the community and the government support, now the path has changed into a shady and beautiful green corridor, filled with lush trambesi plants.
She said the presence of plants not only add aesthetic value, but also creates a cool and safe atmosphere for nature lovers who pass by.
The success of RHL in this village, she said, shows that community involvement in forest management is not only possible but also very effective.
To this end, she hopes the forest partnership plan with Belangian Village can strengthen a shared commitment to preserving the forest while improving community welfare.
